Project UNIFY: Educate, Motivate, Activate youth around the world

Educate: What is Project UNIFY?

Project UNIFY's goal is to activate young people to develop school communities where all young people are agents of change — fostering respect, dignity and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities by utilizing the programs and initiatives of Special Olympics.

Motivate: What's been happening already across Wisconsin with Project UNIFY?

With Camp Shriver reaching new numbers in La Crosse, Unified Basketball continuing to run successfully in the Milwaukee Public Schools, and Young Athletes making an impact in five communities all just this summer, Project UNIFY has seen great successes in creating environments of inclusion, acceptance, and respect. Special Olympics Wisconsin will be able to continue expanding each of these programs, as well as broadening the R-Word campaign, thanks to the $75,000 Project UNIFY grant we are grateful to have received for the 2010-2011 school year!

Activate: How can I be a part of Project UNIFY?

All of us can be part of Project Unify simply by engaging youth in what we are already doing.

  • If you have a SOWI basketball team, offer to scrimmage the high school team or invite them to volunteer at your tournament.

  • If you hear the R-word in the hallways of your school, start a "Spread the Word to End the Word" campaign.

  • If you run a SO tournament, invite a pep band to play.

  • If you teach, implement the "Get Into It" curriculum or run a Young Athletes Program.

The possibilities are endless. By being intentional about involving youth, we are simply paving the way for a world that works for everyone. Join the Project UNIFY movement!
